Cost is one of the first areas an aspiring pilot questions. The following column represents the estimated costs that are typical of someone who gets a Private License over a one year period in 50 hours of flying time in a Cessna 150 (The FAA requires 40). Some PYFC instructors offer flight training at no charge.

Private Certificate Milestones

Getting Started: Make an appointment with an instructor and reserve an airplane.

Get Your Medical: Make an appointment with an FAA Medical Examiner. You must have your medical in order to solo.

Join the Club: You may take three hours of instruction before applying for membership. You must be a member to solo.

Ground School and Written Exam: A ground school is held at PYFC each Spring on Wednesday nights. Others are available elsewhere. This is necessary preparation.

Practical Flight Test: The final step where you show an FAA examiner what you can do, and achieve Private Pilot status.
